WI: Sex offender ‘won’t be released’ unless he accepts housing

The Stevens Point Police Department says a convicted sex offender has chosen to be homeless upon his release from prison on July 5.

Cody ____, 28, was convicted in 2014 of having sexual intercourse with a then-13-year-old girl in 2010 after he invited the girl, and her friend, to his neighbor’s garage and provided them with marijuana that may have contained a “date rape” drug.

Cody also had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old in 2012 and had her text him nude photos of herself, police say.

While incarnated for those crimes, Cody corresponded with the 15-year-old in 2014, sending her sexually graphic letters.

He was also convicted in 2017 for using a different name as a sex offender, which is a Class H felony.

According to a news release from SPPD on June 28, Cody initially “rejected” the housing offered to him by the Dept. of Corrections, choosing instead to be homeless in Stevens Point.

Lt. Joe Johnson from SPPD said Cody had the right to refuse the housing because he’ll be monitored by GPS.

On July 1, Johnson said that decision has been reversed.

“After discussions with local and regional members of Probation and Parole, as well as discussions with local and regional politicians, there has been a change to [his] release,” Johnson said Friday morning.

“Cody will not have the option to be homeless upon his release. Part of his Standard Sex Offender rules will be that he has to reside at 1504 Water St.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if the housing they’re trying to force him into is identical to prison anyway.

Leave it to Wisconsin! Unfortunately they can’t stop him from leaving. People sentenced with extended supervision have to be released. They can not keep him longer. Me being from Wisconsin, I can State I was released homeless, owning a house that I can legally live in, and the probation office would not allow me to live in my house.

Im on doing the math wrong or was he only 16 when he committed the offenses?

Doing quick math… he was between 15 and 17 at the time of his first offense in 2010, right?

Yeah he deserves all this life long punishment for committing a crime as a juvenile…. hope my sarcasm comes across clearly…

I am thinking that if this person is not on parole, then he can live where he wants, but that if he is on parole, then he will have to abide by the parole rules of where he can live.

If he commits another sex crime, then I am sure he will be locked up for at least half of his adult life.

I noticed that false name was a class H felony.
O.K., then what is a class Z felony. My god, they just seem to make this stuff up as they go, then throw some classification on it to justify prosecution.
Pretty soon sorting throw store lingerie for your girlfriend’s birthday present will be listed as some class of offender felony.😵‍💫

Just so everyone knows, he took the state run housing he was offered and is living there. He is also driving a Cadillac CTS! Good for him.

well after hiz 2010 conviction he should of know better but I still don’t think he deserves a lifetime on the registry they all were just young stupid rebellious teenagers.
